Manas Dj Wolf Interview Part 1

 The Zambian music industry keeps evolving and with this evolution come new artists that may or may not be there tomorrow. Manas is one of these new artists and from the music he has been putting out so far,he has definitely found a niche for himself. Check out the interview and videos below and experience this musical breath of fresh air.

deejaywolf:Did you ever think you would win an Award for the Siniziba video?
Manas :I was very sure about that one, but then again I was ready 4 anything, but looking at the category "Most conscious Video" and the other the videos that I was competing with I was pretty sure I would win the Award.
deejaywolf:Yeah. That’s the first time I was introduced to your music ...after you won that Award. I am curious man, your music leans towards Kwaito, who was/is your role model and how did you develop your style?
Manas:I have always loved Kwaito since childhood, every time I head guys like Kabelo and the TKzee fellas,Mandoza Mzambiya,Mzekezeke,Brown dash,Zola and all I felt I could do the same but I was caught up in the Zambian side of things. The feeling was deep down in me but not executed, when I recorded my 1st song on the album on the track number 10 ‘50/50’ featuring Shimpanzi, Roberto told me I had a Kwaito vibe in me. I got 1 of the Kwaito Beats then did a song called ‘Olo Ani Pate’ which is also on the Album, then Kwaito had found a way in me.
deejaywolf:I see, you sure know how to blend it with the Zed vibe. Tell me did you find it hard to do that Tonga verse on 'Music Is In The Air'?
Manas:I came up with that Tonga part while driving to Luangwa,I always felt the kwaito vibe blended well with Tonga. It sounds very close to the South African language and I thought it does make sense as my introduction to the Music scene, Basically everything just flowed well...U know what,, as artist there just are some things we come up with and think "How the hell did I do that?" but trust me I never had any difficult.

deejaywolf:Wow! That’s the mark of a true artist. I am just thinking to myself that if you had done that verse in Lozi you would have bitten your tongue off. Shed more light on your album, who produced it and what artist did you work with on it?
Manas:Lol,get outta here..I cant speak any Lozi. Roberto did the production,some of you may know him as a musician or Dj,but he's all in 1. Well I worked with Tsouya,Slapdee,Roberto himself,maAfrica,Exile.K'millian,Shimpanzi and a small appearance on 1 of the intros by Ozzy the General
deejaywolf:What Label are you signed to and how did you hook up with Roberto?
Manas:Am under BrothaHood Music,I was introduced to Roberto by KB who happens to be CEO K'Amy studios and qualifies to be called big brother coz he's seen me grow.
deejaywolf:But then you didnt get signed to K Army
Any special reason why?
Manas:I could have gotten a deal by K'Amy but when Roberto left the K Amy there was a chemistry we had already built between us(Roberto and I).and I guess beats come from the producer not the label,
And hey no disrespect about K Amy, they are 1 of the best labels around y’all
deejaywolf:Yeah thats whats up. So is the album out now and who is distributing it?
Manas:Album is being distributed by Supershine investiments
deejaywolf:How are the sales coming along? Are you laughing all the way to the bank?
Manas:C'mon man its a "Happy Holiday" watchu expect? I am getting dat money man, like they never thought I would

deejaywolf:How many copies are in print?
Manas:We had a total of 2000 CDs and 4000 tapes, and just now we have to go and do another signing of other copies, my producer just called me. If you know the Zambian music sales trends that’s a very good record for 2 weeks of release
deejaywolf:Yeah I see, how are promoting the album?
Manas:Well @ the moment, BrothaHood Music has taken the the promoting deal,and thanx to the media house around they have been really helpful,and of course I wouldnt forget DJ wolf do you know him?
deejaywolf:I have never heard of Dj Wolf,my daughter told me he is some wanna be Dj who is also a reggae artist,haha. By the way,how did you start singing?
Manas:U nuts...bad company..my mama warned me against people like you.I stated singing in the church like humble lad and just spread my wings when I thought I could fly
deejaywolf:So what plans does Manas have for his career?
Manas:Well big things man,I wanna raise the stardards maybe open the biggest Music Movement in the continent, Sky is not the limit 4 me man.
deejaywolf:That’s what’s up, you are doing it big already with your first album, I can only expect great things from you

I dont usually do this but this one here just had to be posted. But I had to bring this to the attention of  African music lovers. As a dj my main job is to present the music to the public and let them rate it...but I feel I have to say something on J Martins second album 'Elevated' . 

J Martins is Nigerian artist and producer who is best known for songs like 'Good or Bad Ft Timaya and 'Cool Temper'. As a producer,he has produced for P-Square and has featured on a song called 'Eno Easy' on their latest album 'Danger'.

I have had a chance to listen to this album and I am somehow letdown with his effort on this one. There is little originality on this project. The album opens with Oyoyo, a song which,according to him,should have been on P-Squares album as it was Peters idea but J Martins told him it was not the kind of song P-Sqaure is known for.. Oyoyo is the lead single and its banging.

Track number 2 is a song called Iva.which is a sample of a song who's title I dont remember. But the song he sampled is a popular song that I grew up listening to.  (Please listen to the song and help me identify this song.) Iva is a good song,as it borrows its hit worthyness from the sample.Sample or no sample,Iva is a big record all the same.

Track 4 is a song called 'Jukpa' which features a Nigerian boy band  called 'Bracket'. You can clearly see that J Martins had run out of ideas for this album because this song uses the same beat pattern as 'Good or Bad',a hit song on  his previous album. Jukpa should have been the remix to Good Or Bad. Listen carefully to the bass and come prove me wrong.

Track number 5 Is a song called 'Believe;,which is a another sample of 'Living Darfur' By Mattafix,Click here to watch the video for the sample and click here to read about the song.If you want the mp3 of Living Dafur,just google it. Once again on 'Believe',J Martins fails teriibly in his task to make an inspirational song because its a copy of 'Living Darfur'.

  Track 6 is a  song called 'Tonight'. There is where I had to wipe sweat off my brow and say ' Khaki No Be Leather'. This song is a sample of Cash Money signed british R&B songer J Sean's song of the same title from his second album called 'My Own Way'.

This sampling busines should come as no surprise to those of you who know music. Because as P-Square's producer,he as sampled a lot of songs for their records. Click here to read P-Sqaure infor on wikipedia and see the list of songs they have sampled.

Im not talkins about whether the songs are good or bad. Thats for you to judge,I am talking about the copying issue which tarnishes the originality and creativity of the artist. After all J Martins is not the first producer to sample other artists songs,big time producers like Dr Dre do it now and then.Hell even my own daughter sampled a part of my DNA,cuz she sure looks like me. Now thats copying at its best,lol. Y'all have a good one. Im out

Birth Of UZ47

Apparently,Roberto and Toniks from Uganda have formed an R&B group called 'UZ47. Roberto explained the name of the group. He says the U is for Uganda and Z is for Zambia.He is joining Radio and Weasel on the 14th of May for the launch their album.

They have already recorded an album called 'Assault' and its going to be released this month.
